Small Talk City began with a simple, stubborn belief: that beautiful clothes for children are worth keeping. Not disposing of when the season changes. Not folding into a donation bag when they're outgrown. Keeping — in circulation, in use, in the hands of children who will love them.
One-of-a-kind, always. Because children deserve things that were made with care, chosen with intention, and worn with joy.
We are based in Berkeley, California — a city that has always believed things can be done differently. Our shop is a quiet counterpoint to the noise of fast fashion: each piece is chosen by hand, photographed in natural light, and described with honesty. Nothing is ever rushed.
We curate with a particular eye. We look for the natural fibre, the unusual detail, the brand that made something to last. We love Caramel and Bonpoint and Bobo Choses, but we also love the unknown French label from a Paris marché that turned up once and never again. We love one-of-a-kind. We love the story a garment carries.
Our consignment model is built on the same principle: your child's outgrown velvet dress, their barely-worn linen blazer — these aren't trash. They're waiting for the next child who will wear them as if they were made for them. We make that handover as graceful as we can.
The Clubhouse grew naturally out of the community that formed around the shop: families who wanted more than transactions. Seasonal gatherings. A slow newsletter. First picks on new arrivals. A sense of shared values, if never quite stated plainly — that childhood is brief and beautiful and worth surrounding with beautiful things.
We are grateful for every family who has trusted us with their children's clothes, and with finding something for the next season.
Surrounding children with beautiful, well-made things is not indulgence. It is an education. The hand knows a good fabric. The eye learns from what it lives with.
We don't send daily emails. We don't run flash sales. We add new pieces when they are ready, and we close when we need to rest. This is intentional.
A dress isn't just cloth. It's a birthday, a first day of something, a Tuesday that somehow became perfect. We handle other people's things with that awareness.
Our shop changes with the year. What we carry in September is different from what we carry in March. We are always in conversation with what the season asks for.
